You’ve embarked on this journey of the beard oil, you’re on a mission to improve the way your skin looks and feels, and your beard is about to be buttery smooth. But the final decision boils down to this: should you use unscented beard oil or scented beard oil?
The short of it is, you should probably get one of each, because there’s occasions you’re going to want to use the scented, and some days when you want to go low-key. But, if you have to make a decision, let’s weigh the options.
Scented beard oil is made up of a mixture of carrier oils, which are also called base oils, as well as essential oils. Carrier oils are vegetable oils, such as almond, coconut, grapeseed, or jojoba oil, and are meant to ensure the essential oil absorbs into the skin without any topical feeling (i.e. cooling, tingling, etc.).
Carrier oils also have great moisturizing properties, and will not dilute the power of the essential oils. So the carrier oils work with the essential oils, and it’s the essential oils which hold the scent. Of course, these are natural scents from the plants they are pulled from.
Some of the scents you may come across in beard oils include ginger, lime, sandalwood, pine, vanilla, clove, coconut, Cedarwood, and rosewood, among many others.
There are a few things to consider when choosing a scented beard oil: 1. This is going to live right under your nose, especially if you’re rocking a mustache, and 2. The person you’re making out with (or, at the very least, getting close to) is also going to get a whiff of it.
So, choose wisely. But, if you get a really good smelling beard oil, then it serves many purposes: keeps your skin moisturized and your beard healthy, while keeping you smelling delicious. Not a bad deal.
Unscented Beard Oil – Always an Option
On the other hand, you can also get unscented beard oil if scents are not your thing.
Unscented beard oil is made of those carrier, or base oils, which provide great moisture for your skin and beard, and will promote healthy growth, resulting in a full, thick beard.
Rest assured you’re not getting any less of a product if you go for the unscented; it really just depends on your personal preference.
Unscented beard oil is often comprised of a combination of hempseed, grapeseed, sesame, argan, almond, jojoba oils, and possible Vitamin E.
Jojoba is great for all skin types, but is especially good if you have oily skin. Argan oil is loaded with Vitamin E and is great for anti-aging. Almond oil is light and soft, and works to improve skin tone.
There you have it: scented or unscented beard oil, the bottom line is that your skin is going to be silky soft and your beard is on its way to being healthy and shiny. You can’t lose!
